Income, Deductions, and Tax Rates

Tax terms for taxable income, AGI, deductions, rates, capital gains, tax-exempt income, mortgage interest, and debt discharge.

This section now groups income-tax concepts by the practical question a reader is trying to answer: what counts as income, which rate applies, which deductions or credits matter, and how investment or property tax rules change the after-tax result.

Start here for core income-tax mechanics such as AGI, taxable income, tax brackets, tax liability, and taxable events. More specialized branches cover investment gains and losses, tax-exempt yields, tax-deferred accounts, mortgage and property deductions, and discharged-debt income.

The structure is intentionally narrower than the old flat definition archive. Corporate tax accounting, retirement-account rules, credit workouts, real-estate return metrics, and financial statement ratios have been moved into their stronger finance homes.
